Year 1 (Foundation)
Exploration of self – vocal and physical
discovery of the student’s personal qualities and abilities for self-expression
Development of expressive powers, through:
basic techniques of acting – animal study, improvisation, psycho-physical exploration, introduction to acting for the camera
singing, spoken voice including introduction to text work and heightened text dance and physical movement, including jazz, tap, ballet, project movement and introduction to Alexander technique
The language of rehearsal and implementation – intention, impulse, objective,
obstacle, want/need etc.
Sense, meaning and subtext – interpreting the author’s intent.
Singing/ vocal technique and dance movement.
Termly projects into which vocal and physical work feed to develop self-expression
and group awareness
Contextual studies: playtext - theatre history and contemporary styles of
Interpretation
Year 2 (Technique)
Development of vocal and physical technique through termly projects including
classical plays and high comedy
Study and practice of different approaches to acting technique and differing acting
styles
Text study includes contemporary text and Shakespeare and high comedy
Acting technique evolves through audition techniques, clown and mask work,
developing acting for the camera, reaching first public performance. From
Dance training continues with jazz, tap, ballet and contemporary, alongside project
movement and Alexander
Contextual studies continue with theatre history and first devised project
Year 3 (Performance)
A year of rehearsal for performance supported by advanced technique classes in
acting – Chekhov and European naturalism, advanced audition techniques,
Acting for the camera creating a film
Advanced singing/vocal technique and dance/movement
An introduction to working for Radio.
Focus of actor training: the individual actor and the ensemble
Contextual studies involving professional preparation with agents, casting directors
and help from associated professionals, plus a year-long personal project resulting in a finished created piece
Assessment throughout is by external professionals alongside internal staff
Quality Assurance procedures ensure that the work is always relevant to contemporary professional needs and practice.
